Re: Asexuality is not an orientation

It's this kind of discrepancy that makes it difficult to follow some of your posts. If you don't agree with it, then why use the "more than 1 type of orientation" terminology when talking to me/trying to label me? In other words, if there are only 3 orientations (and not 8 or merely 4) the...

Re: Asexuality is not an orientation

Well, by that count, asexuality has been known of for a long time too. Even in my psychology book from the early 90s talks about it. Sure, it doesn't use the term asexuality explicitly, but it does talk about people who feel no attraction to anyone - and it even did it without it being some disorder...

Re: Asexuality is not an orientation

Like I said, according to YOUR definition, I don't have an orientation. Especially since you're saying that asexual doesn't exist as an orientation. Frankly, that was the closest thing I've found to describing myself and my experiences.... at least 10-15 years ago it was. I've never been attracted s...

Re: Asexuality is not an orientation

PIF: Just because a TERM for a given orientation hasn't been in use for long, doesn't mean the orientation hasn't ever existed before the term was used. In the same way that "homosexual" can't be found in the Hebrew Scriptures (If we're going for length of time used). In HS they simply say...

Fellow dyslexic here. I have this problem too!

I never thought to ask, I just presumed that it was a system setting by the board and there wasn't anything I could do about it.

I'm glad you asked :)

Re: Remind me Never EVER look at AVEN again!

Annnnd I'm back after like a year or so hiatus. :D I couldn't resist this discussion (and I tried for my own sanity). That said, I am in the strange position of agreeing with PiF at least in principle on this one. (Please don't faint from shock or anything. I think absence has been good for me.) Tha...

While I've disagreed with PiF on a number of issues recently. On this issue, I do agree. If individual Aces want to identify with LGBTQ+ that's fine, but to say the whole movement should... makes me uncomfortable for many of the reasons that PiF mentioned. Also, I agree with him that either your ase...

I Majored in music in undergrad, I've sung with choirs for over 20 years (I did start young), I played piano since I was 7, tried flute for a couple of years - failed. Later in life taught myself guitar (Classical, not so much strumming, I can still play on occasion, but don't play much any more) an...

That's not what's being said, Jmb. I thought we had ascertained that there was romantic love and platonic love. In THIS thread that was exactly what was said. If that isn't what was meant, then PiF should choose his phrasing more carefully. Especially when speaking with someone who is discerning th...

Re: Sorry for my persistence, but...

Feeling love is open to both sexual and asexual, apparently not aromantics Wrong. Being aromantic isn't about the "feeling" of love. Just like being asexual isn't about the "action" of sex. It's about what you look for/want/desire in relation other people. Do you look for/want/d...

Re: Some help I hope on what is an asexual

I think you need to get yourself some new dictionaries. An asexual is someone who does not experience sexual attraction...well unless your semi demi grey but hey they are asexuals too ..of a kind We've discussed elsewhere that if you experience ANY sexual attraction, you're not asexual. So it's semi...

Re: Some help I hope on what is an asexual

A good question would be: Do you want to get into a sexual relationship as your ideal preference (whether it be a one night stand or a 20+ year deal)? If so, then why do you consider yourself different than "sexuals"? Dang, rather than definitions, that question should be on the front pag...

Re: Some help I hope on what is an asexual

Because that is a very poor definition and excludes sex positives from being asexual. Also, I was under the impression that they did not have a definition for sexual attraction. I agree, though I think AVEN's definitions of most things are poor anyway. Basically, the definitions are either: so open...

Thanks, Nancy! (and stop talking about how old you are - in these cases, age is a valuable thing!) If I understand how you define "pigeon-holing," (Everything has a proper place and that place indicates it's true meaning), then you were the one "pigeon-holing" by saying "X behaviours, are not appropriate for an Asexual." I was saying you cannot judge a person's orien...

I know you don't agree. (We've danced around this topic on other threads.) I don't expect people to agree, but just because a person's experience and/or opinion is different from others, doesn't mean that they should be told "Oh well, you're not XXX, then." (Yes, they went THERE.) Dear God...

Well, I wouldn't say all sexuals can have sex either. Going by AVEN's definition of Asexual (Which they say they use to parallel other sexual orientations), one could have sexual attraction to another, but no desire to have sex - with nothing medically wrong with them. By the by - for anyone who mig...
