Re: Are these things sexual or asexual?

given that some promote fluidity rather than definate I am finding it harder and harder with all the sub groups and then sub groups of sub groups to point another in the right direction to be sure I think our overall sexuality model is probably flawed, but being neither psychologist nor sociologist...

Re: AS, asexuality and Depression Survey

I started the survey, but exited early, as many of the questions were far too binary. Furthermore, methinks as I answered no to both being asexual and having any form of autism, I figure I'd be a disregarded data point. They do make it vfery difficult to give accurate answers. KAGUI, do you mean em...

Re: AS, asexuality and Depression Survey

I think we have a bit of a language barrier here, so my apologies for not understanding some of this. How is one "diagnosed as an asexual by a professional"? What does that mean? Who makes their living diagnosing sexual orientation? What do you mean by "Do you feel sympathetic"? ...

I think some of their policies are poorly thought out, but on the whole they were me favourite party in the last election.

With lack of sexual desire, I don't think it should be considered a disorder even if it causes distress Agreed. I never considered this before, but you're right -- if something causes distress, it is desireable to remove the distress -- but that doesn't make anything that causes the distress a diso...

I am a complete and utter biology nerd. Science in general, but particularly biology. I also write amateur fiction, am interested in general story design (particularly children's cartoons atm; used to be fantasy and then scifi novels), and am a transhumanist and part of the biopunk movement. There are a few things that seem to have anecdotal support that I would like to see supported or refuted by some proper studies. Specifically, whether there's a correlation between asperger's and asexuality, whether there's a correlation between asperger's and identifying as asexual (whether such pe...

Re: Pre-asexuality views on sex?

I assumed that what I felt was normal, and that the things you see in soap operas were caracatures of hypersexuals. The concept of cheating on one's partner due to sexual frustration and the attractiveness/sexual receptiveness of another seemed overblown and unrealistically dramatic, and I assumed t...

Isn't there supposed to be some sort of rule of thumb in psychiatry that says "if it doesn't cause undue distress, it doesn't count as a disorder"? (I hope so... this is the basis of my standard "I don't have OCD" explanation...) But I guess people are people and there'll always ...

I just refer to them as "queer groups", or "nonhetero sexuality groups". Unfortunately the former can be seen as derogatory by people who don't like the term "queer" and the latter doesn't include things like transgender people.
