Re: Relationship ethics: manipulation

Fully agree with the grey lady about the innuendo, that's joining in and joking, its different. I am very rude and explicit in my humour and its not implicit that I'm going to have sex with any one I joke with! I think that whenever you have needs or desires that differ from the norm you should info...

Re: Asking my doctor about asexuality

Just wanted to add a final note to this post - More people suggested to me that my low sex drive was probably related to my contraception so for 3 months now I haven't been using it. I haven't noticed any rise in sex drive. My iron count is now also fine so am in perfect health with nothing interfer...

Re: Don't knock it til you try it!

I think hetrosexual people are a massive social group and even being 'normal' completely over generalises hetrosexuality so perhaps we are not the only ones feeling the pressure? Sexuality, even 'normal' hetrosexuality comes in all shapes, sizes, fetishes and quirks, I have friends who like to be sm...

Re: Criticism of asexuality. Maybe there's something to them.

Social conformity is a basic need, you don't need to do any scientific studies to experience it, it feels good to have consensus with your fellow man... And I'm a huge hippy, I don't think it's a conservative idea at all. The majority of alternate life style are conformity within nonconformity, whic...

Re: Desire vs. Attraction

I think they are the same thing.

I desire to have sex
I desire a particular person sexually

I'm attracted to sex
I'm attracted to a person sexually

Each work has its more common use but they mean the same thing

Re: Pre-asexuality views on sex?

Ironically enough, I've since become more sexually active... But I'm not confused about it, because I know where I stand (most of the time, at least!). I have found this as well, understanding my self as asexy has made me think about/engage in sex way more, woo irony! Partly its because I'm still o...

Re: "I hate being asexual and want to change"

I agree with the responses that if some one is in distress about their asexuality I think ‘just accept it’ isn’t very constructive, each situation is different and if you really want to help them, find out why they want to change and go from there. I can understand why this is sensitive for some ase...

Re: Is asexuality intrinsically unromantic to sexuals?

Placebo, I'm really pleased to read your comments as I have been pondering this my self recently, I'm a sex-positive asexual and until recently just pretended (both to my boyfriend and my self) that I got the same thing out of sex as a sexual person. Having recently told my partner how I really feel...

I'm going to talk about some pretty frank things so be the judge of if you should or wish to read on..... Ok, firstly it probably doesn't need saying but just in case, you might not enjoy sex but there is nothing wrong with your reproductive organs so use contraception! Onwards, I'm an asexual girl ...

Re: "Quality of life"

Some one in primary school (school between 5-12 years old in the UK) once told me that if you can smell it, your eating it. Then they farted. :P I used the example of food because I recently saw my elderly grandmother who has lost her sense of smell and so also taste. For lunch we went on a mission ...

Re: "Quality of life"

I was going to make a comment about mental disorder but after reading further you all hit the nail on the head so all I can say is I don't believe that my capacity to enjoy life is impaired by my lack of sex, but I can't help but question my own self-reporting. I mean, if you ask a crazy person if t...

Ah, must be a US TV show, I'm british! The title 'Earl' has been in use in the UK since the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons is the 5th or 6th century I think.... So its probably been used in continental europe for even longer..... Its still in use, I'm not sure what privileges a modern Earl has (land? t...

Re: Asking my doctor about asexuality

Ok so I went to get my test results, all normal except normal-low estrogen which they tell me is because I'm using the contraceptive pill. He suggested I change to a local contraceptive (a small plastic ring coated in the hormone that you put inside) to rule out any possibility of my absent libido b...

Ily, are you talking about aesthetics? A strait person can enjoy the aesthetics of their own sex for example, women buy magazines filled with photos of hot women without necessarily being sexually attracted to them. If you have felt sexually attracted to one person surely you can see there is a diff...

I have been thinking about this my self because as a happily sexually active asexual drawing lines between romance/pleasure/intimacy/attracti...

Re: Reasons other than sexual attraction that people have sex

I found this topic really interesting, especially CierraJo's idea of picking out the ones that relate to your self and getting your sexual partner to do the same and see where they cross over. I haven't had the chance to do that with my partner but I have discussed it with some sexual friends in rel...

Re: Don't knock it til you try it!

It may very well be the person won't like the baby steps and thus never makes it to the big event, but setting that wall at the first baby step seems a bit restrictive. Have there been any frank discussions about what asexuals physically enjoy about sex? I'm a sexually active a-sexual and I'd like ...

Asking my doctor about asexuality

Since I only recently identified my feelings (or lack there of!) as asexuality I have never considered if there could be a cause for it. My boyfriend, on telling him about asexuality raised the two possibilities of repression or illness. I can understand his lack of understanding, he isn't trying to...

In job interviews I find the best thing to do it turn it around on the person, ask them if they enjoy the working envoromnet and weather staff have a sense of community :) Personally I'd be happier with EQ testing rather than IQ. I have to admit I value emotional intelligence more. Might be because ...

Re: Pre-asexuality views on sex?

It seems to be a theme that most asexuals consider being the homosexual as a teen since your either hetro, bi or homo, no one ever told me at that point there was other options! I have a slightly different experience in that I have been sexually active since puberty, although I could take it or leav...
