Re: Hello

I believe the 'hide' option hides the reply box, not any posts. So if you don't want the box sitting at the bottom of the page, you can hide it (though I honestly can't see how it would be a problem to have it there). Unless there's another hide option I'm missing anyway. Hello runester! I will also...

Re: Romantic and sexual orientation

My immediate question is, why are we relying so much on the ancient Greeks? They had some great thinkers and culture, but they were just as limited by their experiences, knowledge and belief as we are. Just because they didn't have a separate word for romantic love doesn't mean that it doesn't exist...

Re: One-Offs

Hm. I'd be inclined to split those into two categories (or sub categories); sexuality (orientation, romantic, behavior) and gender (gender, sex-as-in-physical-characteristics) (I'm not sure if by biological functions you meant sex, or something else). Basically, splitting 'who I interact with' from...

Re: One-Offs

Hm... I think I agree with you, but I haven't quite detangled my thoughts enough to put them into (decent, anyway) words yet. What do you think goes into sexuality? Sexual orientation, romantic orientation, behavior, anything else? From a couple research papers I've done in undergrad/grad school, i...

Re: Simple as... this?

You've totally misread me. I'm saying that asexuality itself isn't the orientation. Like we're all straight, gay or bisexual, but the asexuality bit is about the lack of inclination. And where do aromantics fit in this? Because "we're all straight, gay or bisexual" doesn't apply in that c...

Oh. I think what we're discussing is less about what's true, and more about how to describe what we agree is true.

Re: Simple as... this?

Okay, then I'm not offended by that. But I think if anything using -sexual words to describe asexual orientations is just going to be more confusing than having the -romantic set. Then people would end up saying things like "I'm asexual-bisexual" and similar, which doesn't make any sense.

Re: Simple as... this?

Behavior might be easier to see, but motivations and feelings are still real. Someone who's heteroromantic asexual and someone who's heteroromantic heterosexual would probably have very different motives for and feelings about sleeping with someone of the opposite gender, and probably would do so in...

Re: Simple as... this?

But what about people with different romantic and sexual orientations? I've seen a number of people who are biromantic but heterosexual, biromantic and homosexual, bisexual and homoromantic, or bisexual and heteroromantic. What would you tell those people their orientation is? Plus, then you'd also ...

Re: Simple as... this?

Slightly off topic: While I agree that sexuality and orientations are frustratingly complicated, I don't think we should be deciding whether or not to add another label on the basis of 'but the charts are already confusing!'

Re: Semi/demi/grey/pan..shouldn't they be sexual not asexual?

I often follow any explanation of what asexuality is with "and if you go look this up you will find AVEN, and here is why you do not use AVEN as a source of information." As for semi/demi/gray, I view them as being sexual, but very strongly linked to asexuality, due to not being as sexual ...
