Re: The relationship between asexuality and LGBT activism

Asexuality as a lack of orientation...honestly, it makes sense. To borrow an expression from another a- prefixed identity I belong to, "if asexuality is an orientation, then not collecting stamps is a hobby." That being said, orientation is something that everyone is supposed to have. And ...

Hello and welcome.

No need to rush your self-discovery with regards to your sexuality (or potential lack thereof). You already seem pretty far ahead of the curve having already figured out whether dating makes sense to you or not.

Hope to see you around the forums.

Hello and welcome.

Glad to hear you are figuring these things out. I know how you feel about AVEN being big. It's like a full time job keeping up with the topics there.

Hope to see you around the forums.

Re: so I'm new and stuff

Hello and welcome. The state school thing, I wish I had done something like that rather than get suckered into a big four-year research university. Debt sucks. And huzzah for teachers. We don't have enough good teachers, so good on you for going for that. In any case, I look forward to seeing you ar...

Re: Reviving Apositive

I apologies, I was busy for awhile and I haven't had time to catch up on this thread. That being said, with regards to the thread-necromancy, around here the board is small enough that it is generally not frowned upon like most other forums. That being said, starting a new thread with a link to the ...

Ah, I misunderstood. Motherboard jumper makes sense.

Bummer on NewEgg Canada not having the selection of the US store. I'm rather fond of their US operation, as it pretty much beats any brick-and-mortar operation around here.

Re: computer hardware

By faster are you talking higher RPM, or did you go solid state? The defective jumper seems odd, seeing as all a jumper is is a piece of metal with a plastic shell made to close a circuit. What I find even more odd is a jumper on a SATA drive (unless maybe it was for RAID settings). The two SATA dri...

Re: Asexuals on Campus

I did a bit of this when I was at Texas A&M a few years back. They already had a GLBT group there, and a friend and I simply brought up asexuality to them. The following Coming Out Week, Asexuality pamphlets were amongst their stuff. Now success in allying with a GLBT group may vary. If the grou...

Re: Hey Everyone :D

Hello and welcome. Now from what I have noticed, actively looking for a relationship seems to land people who want only the shallow aspects; the activity of dating and sex, but almost none of the actual deep parts of the relationship behind it. Most of the successful capital R relationships I have s...

"General Discussions and Fun" tends to imply off-topic whatnot. I first experimented with Linux back in 2002ish, Debian. I've had Linux partitions on and off on my machines. To be honest, I'm rather a fan of the automation in Ubuntu. I can use the command line, but I'm fond of not having t...

Re: Hi All, coming out is a relief!

I recall that article, that was the New Scientist article that introduced me to asexuality and AVEN back in 2004. Unfortunately I cannot think of any other articles at the moment, though I know there are others out there. Dig through the old AVEN threads on media visibility, I know there are links i...

Re: Reviving Apositive

Michael, I am one who believes sexual attraction and sexual desire to be separate entities. I believed this when I identified as asexual, I still believe this now that I no longer identify as such. I would define the distinction as follows: Sexual desire: physical general desire for genital gratific...

Re: visibility for vanilla asexuals

FalconEagle, I believe michael is using the term "vanilla asexual" to refer to asexuals who, aside from their asexuality, still fit fairly within social norms; ie hetero or aromantic and cisgendered; generally rather "normal" by society's standards.

Re: Romantic and sexual orientation

if I had to fathom a guess, the reason it coincides for some many is because it is evolutionarily advantageous. You are more likely to pass on your genes if you have an emotional connection that drives you to better care for your partner which you produce offspring with. Better environment for the o...

Re: This is my first post here. Just want to ask some questions.

Hello and welcome. I can't say I relate to your situation, but I've seen similar. Having romantic desires but no sexual desires seems pretty common amongst asexuals. In that regard you are not alone. Going a bit into topics that have been debated amongst the asexual community, I like to view romanti...

Re: Just joined today, thought I was alone

Hello and Welcome. While I don't personally relate to your story, let me assure you it is not the first I have heard like that. There are plenty of asexuals who like non-sexual physical affection and the closeness of a relationship. In the end, it's up to you whether or not you choose to adopt the a...

Re: visibility for vanilla asexuals

I agree that the much, if not most of the talk on AVEN does not pertain to asexuality, save the welcome threads, and I can see how that would be offputting. But like I said, I do not think that the aims of this site will attract too much of that. As for newbies making one post and then disappearing,...

Re: visibility for vanilla asexuals

I don't think that promoting asexuals who are queer beyond just asexuality is AVEN's focus; I think the appearance is just a result of the lack of other issues a "vanilla" asexual faces. Aromantics tend to not share in the toil and heartache of looking for love. Cisgendered folks tend to n...

Re: MMPORGs

I've played a few micro-payment style MMOs before. MY favorite was Space Cowboy Online. It eventually went under, but rights were purchased and it has been re-released as Ace Online by another company. I'd play, but it really isn't that fun as an M-Gear (my preferred class) until around level 40, an...

Sounds like the extended service would attract mostly newer players. The older players and the more hard-core would likely be on the standard servers. Hope that works out well for you.

Re: MMPORGs

I always hated PvP because of the ganking. It's impossible to level in a PvP server without help from higher level players. WoW is all about retaining the money-giving types, which tend to be the "hardcore" players, the ones that get to the higher levels and raid and PvP all the time. EQII...

Re: MMPORGs

I never hit the official fourms when I played WoW. This is not an uncommon problem at large forums like that. Problem is, in order to keep order on such forums, the iron fist method is pretty much the only way to go. Sounds like you found a good RP group there. With regards to EQII, the RP groups ru...
