Re: Why do I get the feeling this is a bad idea?

If I may make a more explicit argument against the mascot, coming from someone who likes the flag... If you just create symbols as "a bit of fun", I contend that you are not taking symbols seriously enough. If we just create a new symbol every few months as "a bit of fun", you ar...

Uh, don't they know we already have a mascot??? It's this guy:

People are just too English-centric, they never even saw the German-speaking community.

Haha, but no, seriously, this is a terrible idea.

Re: In-love with a self-described hypersexual.

Asexuality 101 is just about what asexuality is, and an overview of common misconceptions. Asexuality 102 includes such topics as asexual diversity, binary breaking, and intersectionality. At least, that's the picture I have in mind. :) Maybe I'm stereotyping or overgeneralizing, but I feel like if ...

Re: In-love with a self-described hypersexual.

I recently had a talk with my boyfriend about what my asexuality entails. I think up to now he's been a bit confused because I clearly feel strongly about the subject (to the point of being an activist), but we are sexually active. But even if he was confused, he has never been anything but acceptin...

Re: Why are sexual thoughts called 'dirty'?

On the other hand, religious values don't just fall from the sky. They come from the cultures that found and develop the religion. Why is sex dirty? Why is it anything? Why is it intimate, sinful, spiritual, shameful, awesome, and crude? I was going to advance a theory, but then it occurred to me th...

Re: On Demisexuality

If you are writing a wiki, I think you can do much better than the English AVENwiki. Seriously, the whole thing seems frozen in time since 2006! For some reason, Rabger's Model is presented as far more authoritative than it really is. Most people don't seem to know... Rabger is just some AVENite fro...

Re: Aromantic Forum

I don't agree. The voices seem really dominated by romantics sometimes. I recall a thread where someone said that he was sad because he didn't think he'd ever find love, and everyone responded, "You'll eventually find the right person!" I was like, "WTF, romantic asexuals?" But m...

Re: Fencesitting

I suppose your comment could be interpreted as trivializing the difficulties faced by gays and bisexuals. "If I were in your place, I wouldn't have all your problems!" (...implying that gay people brought those problems upon themselves.) But that's obviously not what you meant. If you feel...

Re: Pathology and Asexual Politics

There are alternatives--if, for instance, you wanted to say that having all the parts work (physiologically) is normative, but interest in using them is not, that would be an option (though it strikes me as peculiar if you frame it that way.) Still, physiological norms often seem more "obvious...

Re: Pathology and Asexual Politics

Okay, I don't have much comment on the other article, but it is interesting. The idea that understanding asexuality will greatly help everyone else is one of the major points I want to convey to queer groups. I'm also highly amused that the article was originally posted on a queer news source called...

Re: Pathology and Asexual Politics

From the article by ACH: One such difference is that HSDD focuses on lack of sexual desire, and asexuality on lack of sexual attraction. HSDD is a more negative valuation of sexual disinterest and asexuality a more neutral/positive one. I thought this quote was interesting in light of Elizabeth and ...

Re: Could you love/have a relationship with a mtf/ftm asexual?

I asked my friend what she thought about people identifying as cis after transitioning. Her response was "That's so much bullshit." Even if you've fully transitioned, you've still had the trans experience of having been assigned the gender that you're not. And then she started talking abou...

For some reason, I bumped across this old AVEN thread from 2003, and it is really amusing. seriously.........the biggest problem i have with the AVEN symbol is that the triangle is, well a triangle.....the symbol of gays and lesbians. and while that is cool and all...........that is not what asexual...

If I may voice an opposing opinion... I love the purple and grayscale of the asexual flag, and I don't particularly like the rainbow of the LGBT flag. So there. Now we have a "mix" of opinions, which is exactly what you would expect for any choice of colors imaginable. I've also come to re...

Well, some of us are pickle jars, and some are not. ;)

Someone on AVEN suggested "uncomfortable" rather than "repulsed". I like it, but it doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Re: Repulsed asexuals

I "remember" the ABCD system, because it's on AVENwiki . Not sure why it's there, given that the most recent citation is from 2007. If I were to take a guess, I bet the ABCD system was formulated back when the nonlibidoist faction was still relevant. These days, the asexy zeitgeist is that...

Re: Repulsed asexuals

Now that you mention it, why is the difference so important anyway? It's like when people draw a distinction between asexuals who masturbate and those who don't. Yes there is a difference, and yes I fit into one of these categories and not the other, but why's it so important? I can think of some go...

Re: Repulsed asexuals

The problem with the "indifferent" terminology it doesn't give a very nice image if they do end up having sex. That, and there is no room for asexuals with a positive disposition to participating in sex. "Detached" doesn't fix it. Basically I think there are no one-word solutions...

I didn't say I thought Disjointed's heart was in the wrong place. It would be better to say that his support is half-hearted. It's commendable, in the same sense that supporting women's suffrage is commendable. Disjointed, you get a big gold star! Is that what you wanted? Look, I understand that it'...

Repulsed asexuals

As I understand it, the motivation for starting Apositive was the perceived sex-negativity on AVEN. It seems that repulsed asexuals also sometimes feel excluded from AVEN as well. See a concrete example . Being all-inclusive sure is difficult! We should hammer out a good description of the relations...

Honestly, disjointed, you are a little too self-congratulatory. :P Maybe it's just me, with my really high standards for what constitutes queer-friendly or trans-friendly, but this is how your posts look to me: "I've been thinking about this a lot, and I really don't think that we should ostrac...

Re: The Creation of a Flag

First off, I am not sure we really need a flag. Not sure what it is, but it seems a bit premature to be rallying behind a flag. I'd say the point is to use the flag for pride parades. I honestly can't think of any other time it would be used, at least not until we get to the "conquer all natio...

I have no idea what specific queer groups exist for people outside of school, although I would be interested to know. To answer your question about what LGBT groups would be most accepting, we'd need to know the types of groups. Maybe we can come up with some sort of list between all of us. That's ...

Re: Ace-friendly LGBT groups

Okay, so groups with more queer focus as opposed to just GLB. Cool. For my particular workshop, I'm sure that the audience is mostly ace-friendly, since they are college-age. The conference's mission statement even mentions asexuals, though AFAIK, they have never had a workshop on asexuality to date...
