Re: Pre-asexuality views on sex?

That is an interesting theory from your therapist, Heligan. It fits surprisingly well with some of the things that happened to me a long time ago, although I don't know that any kind of therapy could persuade me to WANT to change ... so I am happily asexual. It is interesting to consider, though. *p...

Re: Getting more traffic?

Good to see you 'round these parts, Heligan! (I always read from the bottom up, so this is the first post I have seen from you.) I really appreciate your input! Our focus is slightly different from AVEN's since we are striving to collect and save as much factual information about asexuality as possi...

Re: Getting more traffic?

Roy is right. All of the search engines know that we are here. We just don't have the traffic (yet) or the funds needed to push ourselves up to the front page of their search results. Also, I think it takes some sort of special tweak to the software to show when their bots are present, and we don't ...

Re: Is asexuality intrinsically unromantic to sexuals?

That is unfortunate, disjointed, but maybe for the best in the long term if she really thought that she needed to wield that sort of power over you. I have always thought that power in any relationship should be shared, and that open, ongoing communication is crucial in determining HOW it is to be s...

Hi Fangirl.

No need to be articulate. Kick back and enjoy the site. I know it seems pretty quiet around here, but don't let that fool you.

Re: What do *you* think causes Asexuality?

I agree that it doesn't matter, but the geek in me still wants to understand all sorts of things "just because." (Needless to say, I drove my parents absolutely nuts with the constant "WHY?" questions and I still haven't outgrown the habit of questioning everything.) I think that...

Re: A Hello, A Thank You, and a Little About Myself

Welcome to Apositive, Chris.

It isn't uncommon at all for asexuals (or near-asexuals) to find that their attractions to others are based more on personality than plumbing. 'Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Re: What do *you* think causes Asexuality?

I don't really know. My suspicion is that it is a combination of personality and life experience. So ... what causes people to have different personalities? Something which hasn't been mentioned on AVEN (unless I missed it, which is possible) is that such a large number of asexuals are classified as...

Welcome to Apositive, apsaf. I agree that a certain amount of silliness can be a good thing as long as it doesn't get out of hand. (There are some plans to dedicate a small area of Apositive to a more socially-oriented format but that is still pending.) In the meantime, kick back and relax! -Greybird

AVEN is down indeed! This time it isn't due to any kind of perceived TOS violation on their part, or anything like that. As I understand it, there is something very messed up in the database and it is proving to be a colossal headache to straighten out. (Any unoccupied systems admins in the house???...

Re: Salutations from Sister S.

Welcome to Apositive, Sister Sojourn. This site is calmer and more information-oriented than AVEN and, since we discourage completely meaningless posts, it doesn't seem to appeal to the "youngsters" quite as much. Nonetheless, it can be a good place to meet like-minded individuals. Stick a...

I am a professional cynic. And I love it. When you say you're a "cynic" do you mean you're critical of human conduct, you're a follower of the ancient Greek philosophy...or you just like to bark at people? I was thinking that being a professional means that you are getting paid for ...

Re: Poston and Baumle 2005

It was useful to me because I could see that they were taking us absolutely seriously and because they seem to believe that asexuality needs to be researched in more depth. I think they missed the boat when they tried to categorize people who haven't had sex in the past year as asexual, however. I t...

Re: What do you call your relationships?

I refer to Kæth in a variety of ways, but, like School of Fish said, they are all just verbal shortcuts. Examples would be: boyfriend, partner, significant other, one of my best friends, etc, etc. What I call him in my head when I think about him is too complex to translate into words. It includes a...

Re: Why not have sex?

I have often wondered about this topic, and I'm not sure where I stand, either. I don't know exactly what it is about the idea of sex that repels me. I think what I dread the most is not the sex itself , but the thought that it might somehow become expected of me, or - even worse - wanted and expect...

I know there are some mountainous areas in some parts of the state, but there would still be no escape from that hellish heat. Re: Sex on TV [...and in books] (Adult Content to be expected!)

I'm not bothered at all by sex in movies or TV as long as it is a logical part of the plot. I admit to being a little bit old-fashioned, insofar as I tend to disapprove of casual/cheap sex being portrayed as a good thing with no bad consequences. I object because I feel that the show is intentionall...

I agree. I have never had a problem getting along with people of any sexual orientation. They are still only people, after all. The vast majority of people are amazingly simple to deal with if you are willing to take the time to learn how to do it. A couple of very well known books contain all of th...

Re: Relationships vs relationships.

I don't think there is a great deal of difference between the two as far as what is done or the depth of feeling which is shared. To me, the main difference is probably one of mutually understood lifelong commitment. It doesn't have to be marriage and it doesn't have to be entirely exclusive, but if...
