Re: On Demisexuality

But since others have said that thinking someone is hot means you are sexual , it seems that anyone who identifies as asexual but thinks that some people are good-looking is not really asexual (according to that definition). Really? Who says that? I may be asexual, but my vision works fine. ;) Besi...

Re: San Francisco Pride Parade, June 27th

Thanks! That's too bad there hasn't been much interest. Last year, I wanted to get 50 people (yeah, I know ;) ) and we only had something like 23, but I think our presence was more important than our numbers. As for the banner, we were lucky to have a good sewer who'd been coming to meetups, she vol...

San Francisco Pride Parade, June 27th

In the chance that there are some local people here who aren't on AVEN*... San Francisco Pride Parade! June 27th. Asexuals are taking part for the second year. We're also going to be having a pre-party in San Francisco on Saturday. For more information, feel free to post here or message me. Here's t...

Re: Low sexual desire is not a disease. Stop FDA approval of Fli

Me again, talking about Flibanserin itself this time. I finally got to talk to an MD about it (okay, it was my mom, but still ;) ) and she had some interesting things to say about it. She seemed to think that it would have a hard time getting approved, and also told me about some other points in his...

...As for how many people, I hadn't thought that far. I thought Siggy's idea of a discussion was great, but my mind is sort of boggling trying to think of how we could actually put it together as intended, "a discussion between two groups" (typical theatre major..."BUT HOW WILL THIS W...

Please forgive me for what I'm about to say, but I'm going be something of a contrarian here. FSD (under that name) was an invention of big pharma in the late 90's in the wake of finding out how profitable Vigra is. They wanted to create the "pink pill" but had the problem "what prob...

Re: Low sexual desire is not a disease. Stop FDA approval of Fli

I would like to see some serious discussion between asexuals and people with sexual dysfunction. I think there is a danger, one that has not yet been realized, that the two groups will become adversaries due to a failure to communicate. Let's nip it in the bud. I agree, I think that would be benefi...

I think I understand the kind of thing you're talking about...is it the same thing I'm talking about in the last paragraph of this post ? If so, I don't think that's the same as demisexuality. I think it's one reason I've always liked guys who were indifferent to me. I guess that could sound sad or ...

Re: On Demisexuality

However, some people are technically sexual and functionally asexual. If you experience one burst of minute sexual attraction every ten years, you still need and want the same things asexuals do. That, I believe, is where demisexuality lies, rather than in the idea that there's a state inbetween &q...

Welcome! What could help you figure things out most is just interacting with other asexuals and reading/hearing other folks' stories. Knowing the definition of asexuality is one thing, but it's really helpful to see what that actually means in people's lives. Some asexuals want kids and some don't, ...

Re: Anyone else fed up with technology?

Yeah, I can relate. I live in Silicon Valley so a lot of people are really into having the latest gadgets. It seems like most people here are really excited about new technology, but my train of thought is more like, "ANOTHER thing I have to figure out how to operate?" I try to use things ...

Re: Casual or Short-Term Dating

Well, dating tends to make little to no sense to me, either. I wouldn't think aromantic people are any less qualified to talk about dating, at least in theory...it does surround us constantly, even if we don't take part in it ourselves.

Anyway, if I wasn't asexual, maybe I would date people casually. But even so, it seems like long-term dating would be the natural outcome of successful short-term dating.

Casual or Short-Term Dating

Hey all, A friend of mine has a blog about her experiences with online dating, specifically with OkCupid. She was recently writing about a man she met who was interested only in casual dating, and "short term dating" is an option on OkCupid. This got me thinking whether casual dating is so...

Re: What do *you* think causes Asexuality?

My answer to this question is always, "does it matter?" Would knowing what "caused" our asexuality change our lives, help us somehow, or significantly increase our self-understanding? I don't know, and considering we're not even close to determining a cause, it seems like sort of...
