Re: Can i still enjoy sex?

Okay, so, I replied to your post on AVEN, so hopefully it doesn't annoy you that I'm responding again. It's really not odd that you want to have sex. But the way you feel sounds completely normal for an asexual person. For most of us, sex is not fun and it does not make us feel loved. You can defini...

Re: Sexual repression?

I was "asexually repressed" for awhile. But it was hard not to be that way when I'd never heard of asexuality and knew no other mode of being besides (pretended) heterosexuality. Similarly, I used to be in denial about having a learning disability, but once I got more information on it and...

Re: "Quality of life"

With lack of sexual desire, I don't think it should be considered a disorder even if it causes distress I agree with this 100%. It always bothers me when I see people say "If asexuality distresses you, see a doctor" when their distress is so clearly based not around their sexuality itself...

Re: Why do we organize as asexuals?

Hee hee @ "manifest destiny". But reaching people who may be asexual, but don't know about the concept, is something that's important to me. We could really make people's lives better by showing them that they aren't alone. And I get something out of it personally. I've always been an odd ...

Re: Japan's "Herbivore Men"

Haha, it's funny you say that because I work at Goodwill (in the office). And own way, way too many clothes. ;) In the article, one person quoted said that before Japan had a big Western influence, men that you saw portrayed in literature had more in common with today's herbivore men. That's what I ...

Re: Japan's "Herbivore Men"

Hmm...it's hard to have a "keen interest in fashion" and also spend little money... But that discrepancy aside, I find this really interesting, especially the part about a return to pre-Westernized sexual mores. I wonder if there's a female equivalent, or if women are seen as being on the ...

Re: I'm not sure I believe in sexual attraction anymore

Interesting post! Makes me want to define exactly how I've been nonsexually attracted to people in the past. I think a "longing for nearness", as someone said in Diamond's study, comes closest to my own experience. Although, once I got near the person, I'd have no idea what to actually DO ...

Re: Criticism of asexuality. Maybe there's something to them.

Nah, I can't really tell the difference. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but I'm not sure why I was even attracted to that one person besides the fact that he had cool sneakers and a great smile. I see plenty of people with cool sneakers and nice smiles that I'd never want to have sex with in 1,000 y...

Re: Criticism of asexuality. Maybe there's something to them.

At the risk of sounding like "The 6th Sense", I do see hot people. Granted, it's not often. I'm not sexually attracted to these people, though. (Except for one legendary time in my entire life.) What do I think?...probably just that the person is especially good-looking. I've heard straigh...

Re: Asking my doctor about asexuality

A lot of the research on low sexual desire is financed by the pharmaceutical industry, and they have a vested financial interest in convincing perfectly healthy people that they're sick. I was going to say the same (or at least a similar) thing. A lot of us have seen doctors that've found nothing w...

Well, it's not a person, but for me, writing is a fairly good form of support when there's no one around to talk to. Getting thoughts out on paper, rather than just letting them swirl around in my head, usually helps.

Re: Pre-asexuality views on sex?

For me, I didn't really think anything about sex at all one way or the other, until I suddenly realised that nearly everyone else did , that suddenly thrust it into my mind. I had a really similar experience. I didn't question my sexuality until I realized all my friends were interested in things I...

Pre-asexuality views on sex?

So, I know most of us asexuals discovered this about ourselves sometime in adulthood (I was 20). I'm curious to know what people's views of sex were before they knew about asexuality. Are there any common threads? As for me, I assumed I was heterosexual before finding AVEN. I always assumed I would ...

Interesting post. I was psyched to read a book on tantra for a religion class I took once, but sadly, it was written in a very boring way.
