Re: A speaking gig on different and acceptance... Ideas?

It sounds like it may be worth just tacking in there, but not going too deeply on it. There is a lot to cover in differences and acceptance, far too many to spend too much time on any. If you hit on alternate sexualities, you might give asexuality a shout-out, but with all the other information to c...

While on other forums thread necromancy is often frowned upon, things here are often slow enough that we don't think poorly of it. Post away.

As for the knowledge base, I do think your help would be welcome. Greybird (KAGU143) would probably be the best to talk to about that.

Nothing wrong with comma abuse. I recall my freshman English class in college, wherein every paper had roughtly the same comment: "Great paper, work on comma splicing." Anyhow, it's good to hear that things seem to be going so well now that you have found out about asexuality. It can be qu...

While my parents weren't as pressing with the sex issue, my mother is very much a "happiness is a spouse, and house, and 2.5 children" kind of person, and cannot imagine how anyone could be happy without that. The "why aren't you this way, what the hell is wrong with you" thing w...

That sounds a pretty crazy GLBT group, Belle. The only one I ever associated with was nothing like that, and in fact really only surfaced about once per year, during coming out week. I'd be willing to bet you could find a group like that, a quiet coffee house group. And if not, you could probably fo...

Hello and welcome. It's nice to see a story of finding one's (a)sexuality that is so positive. Glad those who you've told have been quite supportive.

Here's hoping you like it here, I look forward to seeing you around the forums.

Re: in praise of feminism?

Indeed, feminism was a necessary movement to get equality, as women were indeed second-class citizens. Look at some old 1950's advertisements and the like, sexist as hell. Not to mention suffrage, right to work, and all that good stuff. That being said, in modern times it becomes a touchy subject, w...

I suppose this is going to vary from person to person. Part of it may simply be being to miserable to have any sexual desire. There have been times when I was sick when I wanted nothing more than to sleep for a few more hours. Or perhaps it does directly affect their attraction or libido. Other thin...

I'm okay, Michael. The weather here has been mostly just wet and boring. I'll bet that Dargon may have seen some pretty scary hail, though. The worst of that (which from what I have heard from friends in the area was pretty darn bad) hit about 200 miles north of where I am. Glad to hear you didn't ...

NASPA Consortium National Survey of College Students

I just completed the NASPA Consortium National Survey of College Students, which seemed to be a basic survey on college demographics, had Asexual listed amongst sexual orientations.

Just thought someone may find that interesting.

Many pet shops sell baby alligators. It isn't too uncommon for one to be released and raise havoc. usually they end up getting into trouble and then caught, or the winter hits and they don't survive.

In that case either way is rather irrelevant. If she isn't interested in relationships, then it probably isn't going to happen either way. Though if it is out on the table at the get go, roommate sort of relationships are a lot easier to get, and paying half of the rent is a lot nicer than the whole...

Dragging this further off topic: As for beer, I don't even like most macrobrewery _Canadian_ beer, such as Molson's Canadian. It's almost as close to water as American beer is. If I drink beer I usually choose Smithwick's or at least Rickard's Red. Strangely, however, I can't abide Guinness. When yo...

If she "flaunts her asexuality" then she's actively discouraging potential partners. Wouldn't that make him feel more secure about her not leaving? Not 100% true. She might discourage those that are highly sexual, but at the same time being out also ups the likelihood of finding yet anoth...

Rather an interesting story. I really don't have much to say, it's not really something I can relate to. That being said, I am quite curious as you your ideas on gender. I tend to be that way with most people with strong thoughts on the subject or strong identities, because quite frankly, gender has...

Re: Updating of the AVENwiki

My main concern is giving a definitive to what an asexual is when there isn't one The same could be said of gays, straights, and bisexuals, or hell, most anything. Most things in life lie on spectra. We label a few points in the spectra, and tend to associate with whatever point we seem closest to....

This is nothing new. The culture has changed but the appeal to base urges and strong stereotypes is nothing new. Go dig up some 1950's advertisements if you don't believe me. And advertising is less about making the product appeal to you as much as it is being memorable. I can probably name more bra...

I find your definition of gambling quite interesting. I started the survey, but exited early, as many of the questions were far too binary. Furthermore, methinks as I answered no to both being asexual and having any form of autism, I figure I'd be a disregarded data point.

I would be happy to take a cut-down version of the survey, but only if it will help your research. That did indeed answer my concerns, though it leaves me wondering if my answers would even be useful. If you think it may help, then go ahead and send me a copy (pm will do fine).
