Groundbreaking drama about a closeted gay barrister who discovers that a former lover has committed suicide after being blackmailed. It emerges that a number of men are being blackmailed by the same people, and in a life-changing decision, the lawyer resolves to take on the blackmailers himself, risking his marriage and his career. With Dirk Bogarde, Sylvia Sims, Dennis Price, Nigel Stock, and Peter McEnery.(1961)
In the 40's, 50's and 60's the act making homosexuality illegal was widely known as the blackmailers charter. The film is acted in 1960's acting style but shows how things were for those who were homosexual
when it was released it was the first English language film to use the term homosexual within its script
it was a huge gamble for the actors involved as homophobia bordered on the insane with many shamed into suicide.
Anyway, it's not a modern film but a film worth watching I feel
