Pop up ad?

Postby flergalwit » 14 Mar 2015, 03:35

When I loaded Apositive today, Firefox blocked a pop-up apparently from apositive.org.

I assume this is a glitch of some kind, rather than a new scheme for funding the website costs? If the latter, which I very much doubt, a far better idea would be to ask for contributions: I think many of us regulars here would be willing to chip in.

I've never seen any kind of ad on this site? Or from it, either. I mean none - zero - nada. (But then I use Chrome with their AdBlock, and it's pretty effective, even on Facebook.)
I asked Kæth and he said that he has never authorized any popup ads.
That's just weird .... not to mention very disturbing. If you ever get it again can you do a virus scan on it?
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

It's the only one I've ever seen here and unless there's a repeat I think we have to conclude it was a one-off glitch of some kind, quite possibly on my end.

Aaaaah. False alarm.

It WAS a pop-up. It WAS blocked by Firefox. It WAS from apositive. But it was NOT an ad.

It happened again and I investigated. It seems FF was blocking the pop up notification on getting a new PM (which I didn't even know existed on apos). It's never blocked the pop up on AVEN, but I suppose that isn't really a full window.

My bad... sorry y'all...
