biweekly chat?

Postby Michael Smoker » 30 Dec 2010, 07:35

Would something like a scheduled biweekly live chat work for this forum? I know one other slow forum (not on ace issues) where a biweekly chat is quite successful.

Interesting question, Michael.
I will ask Kæth about it tonight. I don't know if it would get any traffic since this site is still so slow, but if it isn't too much hassle it might be an interesting addition.

One thing I found out recently -- Meebo is scary and I don't want anything to do with it!
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

It might be interesting, and I might show up, but I tend to be rather quite in real-time chat. Topics move too quickly and I take too much time to formulate responses.

From experience on the yadaforum, the hard part is finding a decent chat client. We have a little shoutbox, but it only allows 60 posts an hour.

When it comes to clients, I know little about built-in clients, but if we used an off-site client, downloadable or web-based, there are plenty of options there. My alliance in a browser based game uses chatzy for war coordination, for example.

Is biweekly twice a week or once every 2 weeks? I might join in if it was the latter but unlikely to keep up if the former. In general I don't use chat features, for all sorts of reasons.

Oops. Normally, biweekly=twice a week, but what I meant was once every two weeks.

I thought that a scheduled chat would be a good thing for a board that has light traffic, so people who want to talk in real time can do it occasionally. Unscheduled chat tends to work only when there is a large number of users.

Just bumping this thread until we can receive news from management.
